I took these designs from oriental paintings. I was fascinated by how many of these paintings depicted fish or other aquatic life with flowers! They add a bit a fantasy to the designs and I think make a good balance to the more geometric scales and details of the fish. Though taken from oriental paintings, these fish by themselves don't necessarily have to be oriental. It was the backgrounds of the paintings that had the more oriental look.
With all the detail in these designs, they can easily be combined with and will balance a lot of embellishment! On the pillow below, after stitching the designs on Silk Dupioni fabric, I added fibers, beads and shells. I used a fabric glue and it went together quite quickly! Any of the fish would look great on a tote for instance, with a whole sea bottom made of fibers, beads, crystals, buttons, and shells.
