This is the fourth set in the Touch of India series. The additional three sets are Tigers, Touch of India I, Elephants, Touch of India II and Cranes, Touch of India III.
There is a little story behind this set in the series. The other three had main characters that were quite realistic for these types of designs. But when I came to the last image (all purchased from clipart.com), I found what seemed to be very strange birds. The heads and bodies were definitely those of a pheasant, but the tails had *eyes* like a peacock running their whole length. And they only had two or three tail feathers. Though peacocks are the National Bird of India and very prevalent in their textile work, I just couldn't see these birds as peacocks. So I did some research. There are *peacock pheasants*. They are gorgeous but aren't native in India so they wouldn't work. There are 20 species of pheasants in India. I looked up all of them - some very beautiful birds! I chose the Hume's Pheasant to use for this set and redrew the birds to make them more realistic. I chose the Hume's for two reasons. First, it is the State bird of several states in India and Nepal and secondly I fell in love with it's colors of orangey rust, several silvers, black and white and thought it would be an excellent addition to the series. So my version of these drawings are pheasants :)
I have illustrated below two ways these designs can be combined. The designs have many uses in addition to creating the scene with the pheasants. Several of these designs can be used as borders. You will receive an actual size template to complete the top arrangement. In the Medium size this embroidery is 16"x16", in the Large Size - 121"x21" and in the Jumbo - 25"x25".
JUMBO size: this is a new category for us and I would appreciate any feedback you can give us. I have used a 7"x11" hoop as a guide. What I would like feedback on is whether I can go larger than this and still include a lot of the super large hoops available that you are actually using. You can email me at Suz@BFC-Creations.com . If these larger size designs seem popular we will start including them in many of our sets.
