 Baroque Necklace Set

Need some gifts that most ladies young and not quite young can use? Stitch up a few necklaces with their own jewelry boxes. You receive two different necklace medallions each in two sizes. You also receive the medallions in two sizes without loops so you can make a broach. The box comes with a top for each medallion and also plain top and sides so you can add your own designs.

The medallions would also make great Christmas decorations! You can make the box without a lid for a nice little *catch all tray*. For a longer tray, stitch two bottoms together and make two additional side pieces. The combination of shapes is endless. For a taller box or tray, just add another row of sides.

When you stitch these box pieces, you will notice a double row of satin stitches along the side with a very narrow space in between. This space creates a way for the sides to bend easily to make the box. One side piece also has a *hinge* so that the top will lie flat.

How to Assemble

The first step is to stitch all pieces using two layers of water soluble stabilizer (I used Badgemaster) If you want the inside of the box to also be attractive, use the same thread in the bottom as the top. Do not rinse! Then stitch the four sides together as above using a zig zag stitch and anchoring your stitches at the beginning and end. Because of the way the end of the sides are designed it just takes a small pinch to square the corners. Stitch the bottom to one of the sides without the extra hinge

The next step is to stitch the rest of the sides to the bottom. I found the easiest way to do this is to start at the unattached end and stitch towards the side already attached as above.
If you find any small gaps in the corners, a drop of crazy glue or a stitch by hand will take care of them

The last step is to attach the top to the piece with the hinge. Lay the top on top of the hinge and zig zag stitch together. Then sew a small button or bead to use for the clasp. Before I placed the necklace in the box, I folded a small piece of matching felt to fit inside.
