Lace Bowl & Doily - Peacock

I think Peacocks are one of Nature's most beautiful creations and are appropriate for any project. The sides of these bowls are of course based on the Large Tail *Eye* feathers. The Doily has two *sword* feathers on each section. Because I have heard many of you complaining about the difficulty of getting a round bottom inside square sides, I have included both a round bottom and a hexagonal one. The sample below is made using the hexagonal bottom.

5x7 Bowl - 9" Diameter -- Doily - 12" Diameter

4x4 Bowl 6.6" Diameter -- Doily - 8.8" Diameter

Though I used metallic thread and tried to mimic the peacock's colors in my sample, I wanted you to see some other possibilities. These are all done using regular Rayon thread.

How to assemble

Bowl :

Step One: Stitch 6 sides and one bottom on water soluble stabilizer. I used Metallic thread for my sample bowl, but Rayon or Poly 40wt will work just as well. Use the same thread in the top and bobbin. I used 2 layers of Badgemaster.

Step Two: Do not rinse before stitching pieces together. First stitch the six sides to the bottom, curving the sides around the circle or staight across the edges if you're using the hexagonal bottom. . Then starting at the center, zig zag two of the sides together sewing towards the edge, turn your work and stitch back to the center. Repeat for all side seams. Soak bowl according to manufacturers directions and rinse well. Allow to dry. You will find you will not need any stiffening for this bowl or doily.

Doily:

Step One: Stitch 6 sides and one center on water soluble stabilizer. I used Metallic thread for my sample bowl, but Rayon or Poly 40wt will work just as well. Use the same thread in the top and bobbin. I used 2 layers of Badgemaster.

Step Two: Do not rinse before stitching pieces together. First stitch the sides together using a zig zag stitch. Then place the center piece in the center of the sides and zig zag around the circle twice. Soak bowl according to manufacturers directions and rinse well. Allow to dry. You will find you will not need any stiffening for this bowl or doily.

After both the doily and bowl were dry, I gave them a quick steaming with the iron and allowed them to dry again.
