SUPPLY LIST FOR FABRIC PAINTING We are going to do a kind of fabric painting that only uses the regular acrylic paints that you might already have for other projects. I used a brand called Folk-Art but any acrylic paint that is sold for painting on wood an other materials works fine. I have bought mine at Michael's and Joann's for $.79 - $1.29 a bottle depending on whether they are on sale or not. You will want to buy several colors and a large white if they have it and if not two or three bottles of white. Make sure you also have black. The important thing to get is called *Medium* It is sold with the acrylic paints and this is what makes the paint soft so you can use it on fabric. It is usually sold in a large bottle for $3 or $4. Folk-Art has one and several other brands of acrylic paint also have their own. So, here is the list: !. Acrylic paints in various colors 2. Medium (softener for acrylic paints) 3. Brushes in various sizes. One of the assorted packages sold at Joann's or Michaels is fine - they don't have to be expensive brushes to get started. You want to make sure you have one or two flat wide brushes, and several sizes of regular brushes. If you want, you can buy some soft and some stiff brushes so you experiment with the effects they produce. Don't spend much on brushes at this stage! If you decide you like to do this, and have determined what size and kind of brush you like, then you can invest a little more money in them 4. Fabric - I have used many different kinds: all cotton, muslin (this is messy as the paint soaks through but comes out looking good), polyester, blends, linen-look fabric (this come out good) A good fabric to start with is a good heavy cotton woven - I would start looking in your fabric stash for several different kinds. Cut pieces about 12' x 18' to start with. Be sure to wash your fabric first to make sure it doesn't have any size or other finishes in it. 5. Something to cover your work area (LOL) 6. Something to mix paint in. I use plastic plates - the kind sold for picnics. 7. Several cups (plastic are fine) to put water in Susan Makalinaw BFC Consulting, BFC Creations 303 Greenwich Ave Suite A122 Warwick, RI 02886 Phone: 401 737 8037 suemak@cox.net http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BFC-Creations/ http://www.BFC-Creations.com
