Directions for Picture: I used three of Fred's
sample stitch outs (done on cotton broadcloth) and arranged
them on a table. I then trimmed each design so they overlapped
each other by about an inch and stitched them with a regular
stitch on the sewing machine. I then took fabric that resembled
rocks (from the
Quilter's
Quarter) and randomly cut shapes loosely following the
design in the fabric. My picture above has four of these pieces.
I arranged them over the designs until I was happy with the
placement and then using G-S HYPO Fabric Cement (from
the
Sewing Cottage) I applied a thin bead to the edge of the
fabric pieces and glued them down. This glue is excellent
for fine work! It has a very precise nozzle that makes it
easy to get the glue just where you want it. Instead of glue,
you could also use a fusible product used for appliqué.
To finish the picture I added four strips of color around
the edges.
