Vintage Locomotives

William B. Butler started with the RF&P Railroad in 1940 and retired in 1974. He has generously allowed me to digitize some of the photos he took and collected during those years. The Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Railroad started in 1824 and ran until the CSX took it over in 1974. When the RF&P switched to diesels in the early 1950's, William was the third man on the RF&P to make the switch from steam to diesel. His daughter, Anne Phillips, has been great at helping me develop this set. William is counting on her to embroider these trains on his shirts :) You can see *Pop* Butler down below - doesn't he look like an authentic railroad man?

The one in this picture was purchased from the C&O RR during WWll

Often referred to as The General and was a wood burner

The 570 was built in the 40's by the
Lima Hamiliton Locomotive Works, Inc

The 104 was built by the American Locomotive Works in 1932
This design is based on a photograph taken August 1932

Built by American Locomotive Company in 1920.
The 307 was one of only a half dozen that
had the air compressors on the front end.

Richmond & Danville Engine #14
The engine was built by Rogers Locomotive Machine Works, and delivered to the Confederate Government in 1864, and named the "Charles Seddon". This was the engine that carried President Jefferson Davis and party to Danville after evacuation of Richmond in 1865
