Portrait Perspectives

Lines can be expressive. They exist everywhere. Latent
in the curvature of a vase and hidden in the upward turn
of a glass- in the end they define shape. Ultimately the
medium of sewing is that of articulated lines. The luxury
of taking a piece of charcoal and smudging it blurring the
outlines just does not exist. Illusion is possible and it
is something I wish to possibly explore in the future.
Always at the end of a design set I learn something and
this set was no exception. This set started as an exploration
of the expressive qualities of the face within my limited
command of this medium. What objects could I add to enhance
or detract to emphasize a particular expressive element,
articulating one eye-shading another, leaving obvious structural
characteristics vague etc. But it ended up with the realization
that simple lines have endless expressive possibilities.
It is something I hope to explore further in the future.
